Title of Work the plan poet
Author Philippe Bootz
Year of Publication 2005
Language French
Description A poem with words and pictures. The poem uses two visual layers. The background layer is a kinetic visual poem among which words move above a changing picture. This animation is independant of the second layer. The second layer is a flat color. You must destroy this flat by moving the mouse to read the poem but the animation continues even if the flat prevents to read it. The speed of disappearance of the flat depends on the speed of the "planing" mouse. But even if you continuously move the mouse, the flat regularly reappears. So, you can only read parts of the poem by zapping on it. The moving of the mouse disrupts the reading : interactivity, here plays again freedom of reading, the reader is "catched" by the poem. The program is not a text generator, but often, the imagination of the reader reinventes the parts that were non read, even in rereading : the reader herself becomes a text generator "in" the poem. This work claims that interactive reading is not an external function applied on a work but a truly physical component of the poem in the same way that the program.
