| Description | Founded in 2001, Speclab has been promoting experimental and exploratory research in Digital Humanities. Committed to the idea of applied theory, its chief research arm has been Applied Research in Patacriticism where four software projects are in various stages of development. Ivanhoe, for example, is an open source electronic role-playing game for educational use. The software is suited to any discipline in the humanities concerned with textual and visual hermeneutics. It is an example of the use of ludic or game-related techniques in higher education in the humanities. By definition, SpecLab projects are interdisciplinary and innovative, often undertaken with uncertain outcomes for the sake of expanding the methods and assumptions of Digital Humanities. |
