Katherine Hayles

N. Katherine Hayles, Professor of English and Design/Media Arts at University of California Los Angeles, teaches and writes on the relations of science, technology and literature in the 20th century. Her most recent book, "How We Became Posthuman: Virtual Bodies in Cybernetics, Literature and Informatics," won the Rene Wellek Prize for the best book in literary theory for 1998-1999. She is currently at work on two books on electronic textuality, "Literature for Posthumans," forthcoming from MIT Press, and "Coding the Signifier: Rethinking Semiosis from the Telegraph to the Computer," under contract to the University of Chicago Press.
