Description:
The tradition of the icon as mnemonic device is rich and spreads back well through Western history. The associations between computers as religions are also quite rich, as there have been Internet jokes about Mac and PC systems being similar to Catholicism and Protestantism, and so on.

These desktop icons, by virtue of their very nature, invoke a complex dialogue with history and computer culture. Inspired by Byzantine Christian iconography, the use of the icon refers to the historical mosaic form, the use of religious icon as paradigmatic construction, as well as the religious overtones of the computer zealot.

Therefore, when you click on one of these icons, what are you clicking on, and what does that say about how you relate to the computer you use?
