Join or Donate to ELO

The ELO relies on its international membership and generous donations to fund its many initiatives.

Join the ELO

Your ELO membership connects with you a network of scholars, artists, and professionals working in fields relating to and surrounding electronic literature. Most importantly, membership supports the organization’s many activities and initiatives, such as its conferences, publications, archives, events, awards, and other initiatives that benefit the field, most of which are offered open access to the community. Membership also provides you with support for research and discounts to the Digital Humanities Summer Institute.

Membership dues cover the calendar year in which they are received. When received in the middle of the year, some of the membership benefits you receive are prospective, such as providing access to our conferences and other events, while others are ongoing, such as supporting our initiatives.

Your Support

Here are some of the many initiatives your membership and donations are supporting.

Electronic Literature Collection (ELC), Volume 4: https://collection.eliterature.org
You love ELC1, 2 and 3. Help us now with the development of ELC4. Planning for this new anthology of electronic literature launches in 2022. Funding is needed in support of editorial meetings, website development, and an archival version of the publication for libraries, research centers, and gallery exhibitions.

The NEXT: https://the-next.eliterature.org/
2D & 3D, Algorithmic, Animated, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Augmented Reality (AR), Codework, Combinatory, Generative, Glitch, Hypermedia, Immersive, Interactive, Kinetic, Locative, Mobile, Multimedia, Networked, Virtual Reality (VR), Virtual World, Web-Based/Net—these are some of the qualities found among the 34 collections of digital art and writing at the Electronic Literature Organization’s The NEXT. Envisioned as a combination museum, library, and preservation space, The NEXT maintains and makes its archives accessible for the next generation and responds to the growing need for open-access, travel-free cultural and research experiences for today’s public and scholars. Funding goes toward maintaining and adding collections, preservation needs, metadata development, equipment, and the graduate and undergraduate researchers who undertake these tasks.

Electronic Literature Directory (ELD): http://directory.eliterature.org
One of the most useful tools for e-lit scholars is the Electronic Literature Directory. Founded in the early 2000s, the ELD continues to provide descriptions, keywords, and critical commentary for hundreds of e-lit works. Support for the ELD is needed to fund graduate students and early career scholars who serve as editors of the site.

Consortium for Electronic Literature (CELL): http://cellproject.net
The CELL project makes it possible to search for works of electronic literature across participating member databases located across the globe. Funds are used to maintain the CELL search engine and the project website.

Electronic Literature Collection Conference & Media Art Festival: https://conference.eliterature.org/
Each year ELO hosts a conference and media art festival that fosters the sharing of research and art among members and the larger community. Previous events have been held in Los Angeles, Paris, Bergen, Victoria, B.C., Porto, Montreal, and Cork. ELO 2022 will take in Como, Italy and online. Funds are always needed for bursaries that assist graduate students and unaffiliated scholars and artists with travel and accommodations.

Thank you in advance for your generosity and for your ongoing support of the Electronic Literature Organization.
